Many patients believe that summer is a time when aesthetic medicine and cosmetology take a long break. Fear of discolouration and irritation often leads us to put off having our skin treated at a clinic, precisely when it is most at risk of becoming dry. In US CLINIC We know full well that this is a harmful myth!
Although the sun does impose certain restrictions, the summer months are the perfect time for a range of effective and safe treatments. Take a look at our practical guide to find out which treatments you can safely have now, and which are best left until the autumn.
What is BEST TO AVOID in summer? (Treatments with a red flag)
UV radiation is the skin’s main enemy following intensive treatments. If we breach the integrity of the epidermis or induce deliberate inflammation, exposure to the sun can lead to the formation of marks that are difficult to remove discolouration (hyperpigmentation).
Which treatments should you avoid in July and August?
- Fractional ablative and non-ablative lasers: Skin resurfacing takes time to heal. Sunlight hitting skin that has been sensitised by laser treatment is a sure-fire way to develop pigmentation spots.
- Deep exfoliation (strong acids): High-concentration chemical peels (e.g. TCA, glycolic acid) reveal new skin cells, stripping the skin of its natural protection.
- Laser hair removal on freshly tanned skin: A fresh tan increases the risk of burns and reduces the effectiveness of the treatment.
- IPL treatment for closing capillaries and removing discolouration: It’s definitely best to wait until the shorter autumn days to tackle these problems.
Important note: Mild acids that can be used all year round (such as mandelic, ferulic or lactic acid) are safe to use in summer, provided you strictly use creams with a high sun protection factor!
What are you ALLOWED and ENCOURAGED to do in the summer? (Safe treatments)
Summer treatments should focus on intense moisturising, regeneration, antioxidant protection and firming. Here is a list of treatments you can book at US CLINIC without worrying about the sun:
1. Botulinum toxin (Botox)
It’s actually the perfect treatment for summer! Why? The sun causes us to squint instinctively, which instantly deepens the so-called ‘crow’s feet’ and the ‘lion’s wrinkle’ on the forehead. Botox injections gently relax the muscles, preventing expression lines from becoming permanent on sunny days. What’s more, botulinum toxin is also a lifesaver for people suffering from hyperhidrosis (underarms, hands or feet).
2. Tissue stimulators and needle mesotherapy
In summer, the skin loses moisture at an alarming rate. Air conditioning, salt water and the sun dry it out considerably. Mesotherapy (with hyaluronic acid, vitamins and antioxidants) and modern tissue stimulators They act like a nourishing, deep-penetrating infusion. They provide intense hydration, plump the skin and give it a beautiful, radiant glow (the so-called effect glow).
3. Body contouring (e.g. Icoone massage)
Are you getting your body ready for a day at the beach? Innovative vacuum massages, such as Icoone, are completely non-invasive, relaxing and 100% safe whatever the season. They are excellent at reducing cellulite, firming the skin and eliminating lymphatic congestion and swelling, which often bother us in hot weather.
4. Fillers (Cross-linked hyaluronic acid)
Lip augmentation or hydration, facial volumisation or chin reshaping using hyaluronic acid do not make the skin more sensitive to the sun. They simply require standard precautions for a few days following the procedure (avoiding saunas, swimming pools and extreme heat immediately after the injection).
The golden rule of summer skincare
Whether you’re having cosmetic treatments or simply relaxing in the garden, there’s one inviolable rule: photoprotection.
Daily use of sun cream SPF 50+ It is the cheapest and most effective anti-ageing treatment in the world. It protects against photoageing, prevents loss of firmness and allows you to safely enjoy the results of treatments carried out at the clinic.
